Racketeering – What is Racketeering: Racketeering is the act of operating an illegal businessor scheme in order to make a profit, perpetrated by an organized group. This is a broad category of crime which include corruption, the sexual exploitation of children, and illegal gambling, among many others. Racketeering is closely associated with organized crime, since both are carried out by groups.
Racket includes many crimes. It includes theft and fraud against businesses or individuals. Governments may be victims of racketeering; examples: counterfeiting and money bootlegging untaxed. The racket may also take the form of providing illegal services such as prostitution or drug trafficking. Racket also takes place among legitimate businesses and unions, where it is sometimes called the white-collar crime. Examples include extortion and money laundering.
Criminal organizations engaged in racketeering often have legitimate businesses, such as gambling establishments licensed or company labor such as garbage collection, to provide cover for their rackets. In addition, the racket is often aided by corruption, blackmail, extortion or public officials or employees. legitimate businessowners can be handled in the same order to help criminal groups and their practices of extortion to appear legitimate.
Although all forms of extortion are targeted by enforcement of the law, of particular interest to the Government of the United States is the labor racketeering. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines racketeering labor that manipulation of labor, which affects all industries and companies related to this working group. In early 1950, the FBI has investigated organized crime, particularly the Cosa Nostra or the Mafia, with trade union links and learned that many of their officers posing as or are in collusion with members of the union while engaging in labor racketeering. These racketeers extort union leaders for corruption or with offers of favorable contracts or conflicts are resolved, or force them to accept certain conditions or requirements. The ultimate goal of most labor racketeering is the control of health, welfare and pension plans of union members, total assets amounting to several billion dollars.

Through the use of this law, the government hopes to eradicate corruption caused by racketeering.
