San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary said Wednesday that Troy Smith would get the green light to the QB for the 49ersthis week. The regular starter, QB Alex Troy Smith, will be released possibly several weeks with a sprained left shoulder.

He said he thought Troy Smith knew enough of the offense, but admitted that the practice of this week - the first time Troy Smith has worked with the first team offense - will be telling. Singletary said the team would not be practical to raise squad quarterback Nate Davis at this time and there would be no 3, or emergency quarterback Sunday against the Broncos.
Troy Smith came to the team in the first week of September and was, at least we thought it was the third string QB. With Alex Troy Smith down, the 49ers jumped just above QB David Carr did not play so hot fill for Troy Smith last week.
Troy Smith, now in its fourth year in the NFL, has not started a game since his rookie season. He was drafted by the Ravens before signing with the 49ers in September. Niners Nation starting to see what they are Troy Smith as the starting point QB.
