ISLAMABAD: Government has nominated four parliamentarians, one from each province to be the part of parliamentary committee instituted for Judges’ Appointment, Geo News reported Monday.
According to the sources, Aftab Shaban Mirani has been picked up from Sindh, Asma Arbab Alamgir from Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw, Senator Sabir Baloch from Balochistan and Senator Nayyar Bukhar has been nominated in the Judicial Committee from federal capital.
According to the sources, the final decision in this connection has been made during one-on-one meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
It should be mentioned here that all the nominated parliamentarians have been taken from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). When contacted, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) circles said the government did not consulted them over the issue.
Central MQM leader and Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghauri said his party has serious reservations over the nominations, as they were not taken on board for the purpose.
Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the government took representations from all the provinces.
Talking to Geo News, the spokesman of Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Zahid Khan said his party would oppose these nominations, adding the PPP is not in habit of consulting the coalition partners.
