First ever biggest Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) showcasing from November 27th until December 5th 2009. SLDF was conceptualized, lead and organized by the Academy of Design (AOD) in collaboration with Government of Sri Lanka, Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Apparel, British Council, and Brandix Sri Lanka, to name but a few of those involved.

Key opinion leaders, designers, retailers and buyers from the world of international design is set to be in nine days and the Fashion Shows will also feature international designers who are designing special collections inspired by Sri Lankan textiles and crafts.
The series of Fashion shows is comprised of four main shows. Sri Lankan Designers Runway Show, Industry Fashion Show, The AOD Graduate fashion show and the University Of Moratuwa Textile Department Graduate Fashion show will provide a preview to the generation of new design graduates who will be taking on the creative industry of Sri Lanka in the future.
Popular names of the international fashion arena in sustainable fashion is taking part in the SLDF including personalities such as Colin Mc Dowell, Nikki Rowntee, and Angela Rumsey. Top models like Silvia Bernazza, Valeria Bartoloni, Ruth Morandini, Camilla Raffin, Lucija Slavica, Sara Yug, Dafne Russo, Alessia Clocchiatti, Antonella Giunta, Nisida Zanette, Mariagrazia Grasso and Alessandra Finizio taking part in the SLDF 2009. International fashion media like Elle, WGSN, Drapers, Just Style and Retail giants like Top Shop, Warehouse, ASOS and Monsoon will also join in the festival. Key buyers such as Next, Topshop, ASOS, Monsoon coming in as visitors.
